THE KENYA CENTRE OF ACADEMICIANS

INVESTING IN THE BRAIN

A learner centered mentorship will live long! Will quickly and surely transform a school’s performance from success SSC level 2! to SSC LEVEL 8! because students are the custodians of a school culture! And that student’s performance and general behavior  define what type of a school you lead.

A school that mentors its students will not only benefit the learners but the school in general. When students acquire a success culture the school will run smoothly.

When the students are self driven the teachers will be motivated to teach and go an extra mile. Success culture does no come to those who wait for miracles declared from the heavens! Success happens to those people who are ready to take action and move with speed!  Just like for any project to succeed, the owner must pay the price without complaining! school owners and heads too are not exempted. The school is a huge career project. A school prepares future doctors!, future teachers, engineers and lawyers! The school is the future of a nation!

A good mentorship program should be LEARNER CENTRED AND TEACHER DIRECTED.

Mentoring your promising employees can benefit them — and your company. Mentoring means taking personal interest in seeing that a mentee develops the talent and knowledge needed to succeed — to have a successful career and contribute as much as possible to the company and society. Mentoring differs from coaching and advising in its emphasis on developing a personal relationship and advancing the career of the mentee. It’s not just giving advice on how to work more effectively or handle a specific problem. Once you’ve hired the best and the brightest, you want to retain them long past the training period. You can earn their loyalty by putting them on the fast track under senior executive guidance. Some companies have formal mentoring programs, with senior executives establishing counseling relationships with junior executives, and old hands assigned to mentor new hires. Some mentoring connections develop when senior and junior staff members are drawn together by common interests and one or the other decides to pursue a mentor-mentee relationship.

There is a great need for effective mentoring relationships in today’s culture, and the potential for academic influence is tremendous. There is an increasing number of parents/guardians who divide their time and attention between social responsibilities and providing basic needs for their children, specifically quality care, attention, and support to help them succeed in an ever-changing society and the demands of the information age! The Kenya centres of academicians, KCADOR Provides the platform that can allow students to interact with mentors and career icons willing to take support in both social and academic endeavors.

THE TEN RULES OF KCADOR MENTORS

  1. KCADOR MENTORS ARE ROLE MODELS

A great mentor is a complete role model. He or she needs to make an impact beyond professional success. In addition to the knowledge, expertise, guidance and direction that a mentor is supposed to provide, the overall impact is measured by the quality of communication, as well as the strength and integrity of character and the ability to inspire.

  1. KCADOR MENTORS ARE EMPATHETIC

Putting oneself in the shoes of the mentee is a key aspect of the relationship. Understand and evaluate the mentee’s situation while providing advice, coaching and guidance. Without understanding, any form of feedback and guidance may sound unrealistic, impractical and/or irrelevant.

  1. KCADOR MENTORS -HELP IN EVOLVING STRENGTHS AND DILUTING WEAKNESSES

Mentors do not (and should not) have responsibility for character transformation. Great mentors should enhance personality strengths and find workable solutions for weaknesses.

  1. KCADOR MENTORS LISTEN

Great mentors are effective, engaged, focused and sensitive listeners. They listen with intent and purpose. All forms of guidance and direction that are given back are influenced by listening.

  1. KCDOR MENTORS ARE OPEN-MINDED

No two discussions, requests for advice, guidance or direction are alike or driven by the same considerations. A great mentor needs to keep an open mind. The openness should be around tailoring advice and suggestions, as well as helping in strategizing and improvising.

6.KCADOR MENTORS HAVE GREAT PATIENCE

In a mentoring relationship, patience is truly a virtue. There will be moments of frustration, annoyance, miscommunication and lack of understanding. Great mentors rise above periods of frustration.

  1. KCADOR MENTORS DISPLAY COMMITMENT

Commitment is a virtue that needs to be equally practiced by both the mentor and mentee. A great mentor can play an invaluable role in shaping the commitment levels of the mentee, in addition to keeping their own commitment levels high.

8.KCADOR MENTORS EDUCATE AND PASS ON

No mentors are expected to know everything or have answers to every question. Effective mentors do not let the lack of knowledge and answers disable them from giving good guidance and direction. For questions they do not have answers for, they tap into their larger networks, educate themselves and pass on the knowledge to their mentees.

9.KCADOR MENTORS ARE PRIVY TO THE PERSONAL SIDE

Questions about career transitions will come with doubts on confidence about things such as transitioning to senior leadership roles and managing teams. Having a broad and personal understanding of the mentee’s social, environmental, financial and individual circumstances always helps in providing sound and practical advice.

  1. KCADOR MENTORS TAILOR ADVICE TO CIRCUMSTANCES

Every piece of advice, guidance and feedback can only be valuable if it is tailored to a specific circumstance. Effective mentoring involves providing situation-specific advice as the relationship evolves and the mentee’s professional and personal life stage changes. Advice does not need to be perfect – it needs to be relevant and practical.

Mentoring is not for everyone. It requires commitment and a true sense of interest in helping guide and develop mentee’s careers. However, if you are up for the challenge, it’s one of the most rewarding work experiences.

What We Can Do for You?

WE PROVIDE OUR CLIENTS WITH PROFESSIONAL MENTORS

The foundation for developing effective mentors is built on appropriate training sessions and clear directions, including thorough and necessary background checks and professional coaching, inductions and exposure programs. KCADOR will continuously train its trainers to ensure that they provide timely solutions to the mentees and schools. Successful mentors are those who possess warmness and are responsive to inferred needs of the mentee. There is an element of liquidity involved in the human side of mentoring, requiring the mentor to respond appropriately and flexibly to the current of the relationship.

The most significant characteristic of KCADOR mentors is that they are goal oriented and seek  to develop a positive long term relationship with the mentee, That is, the mentor strives to establish a human connection with the mentee where empathy and understanding are key. The building of the relationship we seek likened to the building of a bridge between two people, something that takes planning, resources, and time to transport positive ideas and values to the mentee. Most KCADOR engagements with its schools and students are long term since we believe that skills are slowly and carefully instilled to a person. We are humans and not machines.

MENTORSHIP HAS LONG TERM BENEFITS

Schools can help students find mentors by connecting with businesses to offer work-based learning opportunities. These opportunities benefit students by allowing them to explore career pathways in real-world settings and connect with a mentor in the field. Businesses benefit by connecting with potential future employees.

The benefits of mentors for beginning teachers is widely known in educational circles. However, many of those same benefits apply to mentoring for high school students and even middle school students, especially those who are at risk of not graduating. School leaders can seek out community partnerships that create more mentoring opportunities.
